Where are you from?
Born and raised in Philadelphia!
Where/what are you currently teaching?
Currently I am tutoring students in STEM (Science, math, engineering, math) topics from 7th grade to college levels.
What are 3 words to describe you?
Energetic, personable, accommodating
If you could learn any skill/hobby what would it be?
I would love to pick up the saxophone! I play exclusively string instruments and there are just some things the saxophone can do that my guitar never will.
Tell us something that may surprise us about you!
Until I was 16 years old, I held failing marks in most science and math classes. Flash forward a decade and change and I now have distinguished degrees in Chemistry, Math, and Education!
If you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do?
It doesn’t happen often but I could probably be found playing some guitar in that window.
What is the best place you’ve traveled to?
London was an awesome trip. Great history, great people, (not so great food), and a super easy public transit system. One of the few, rare places I could see myself leaving Philly for.
If you could spend time with anyone who would it be?
Elon Musk. He is/was a part of so many interesting projects (Tesla, SpaceX, Amazon/Paypal, etc). Really an impressive story from an unlikely person. If anything, he seems like living proof that the American Dream is a bit closer to our reach than we may think.
What advice do you have for kids struggling in school?
I was awful at math and science in early high school. I think that having a willingness to accept help and the confidence to be wrong more than I was used to made it possible for me to grow as a student. Obviously, it didn’t happen overnight. It took me maybe two or three years to feel truly confident in those topics. Getting over that hump is probably the achievement I am most proud of today – nothing really beats the feeling of personal growth.
