Where are you from?
I grew up in Monmouth County, New Jersey and currently live in Philadelphia.
Where/what are you currently teaching?
I teach third grade in Upper Darby and am currently going back to school to become a reading specialist.
What are 3 words to describe you?
My family and friends would describe me as dedicated, hard-working and caring.
If you could learn any skill/hobby what would it be?
Cooking/Baking. During this quarantine I have been doing a lot more cooking/baking and learned that it is something I truly enjoy!
Tell us something that may surprise us about you!
Last year I lived in Tampa, Florida with my fiancé (now husband) and taught first great. Although we loved living by the beach, moving back to Pennsylvania and being close to our family friends is definitely where we want to be!
If you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do?
If I had 30 minutes of free time I would catch up on a tv show. A show I recently enjoyed watching was Little Fires Everywhere.
What is the best place you’ve traveled to?
The best place I have traveled to is Hawaii. I went on a cruise exploring all of the islands and then stayed on the island of Waikiki for 5 days. It was the most amazing experience. I loved sightseeing as well as spending time on the beautiful beaches.
How do you spend your summers?
I usually spend my summers babysitting and tutoring. I have a love for being around kids and have babysat ever since I was younger.
If you could spend time with anyone who would it be?
If I could spend time with anyone it would be with my family and friends. I especially love spoiling my niece Hailey and my nephews Liam and Vincent. I also truly enjoy spending time with my husband and our friends.
What advice do you have for kids struggling in school?
Don’t give up! Keep trying and you will succeed. Failure is the key to success!
Amanda is an Elementary School tutor on our team. She is a graduate of West Chester University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in early grade preparation in K-4. Amanda has experience working with children both in and out of the classroom focusing on developing fine and gross motor skills, as well as verbalization skills. Additionally, Amanda assisted for Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA in Lionville where she advocated for the importance of a healthy lifestyle from childhood through adulthood.
