Meet Bryan!

Where are you from?

I was born in Philadelphia but grew up in Rosemont and Wynnewood.  I went to Lower Merion High School and St. Joseph’s University so I’ve stayed pretty local to the Main Line area.  I currently live in Narberth with my wife and our two French Bulldogs.

Where/what are you currently teaching?

Currently I work at Ithan Elementary School in the Radnor School District where I teach Special Education.  I primarily work with students in grades 1 through 4.

Do you participate in extra curriculars/club at your school?

I try to be an active  member of our learning community at Ithan.  Outside of IES however I coach baseball for Lower Merion High School as well as for Narberth Senior Legion.  Additionally, I teach private swimming lessons for all ages.

What are 3 words to describe you?

The first 3 words to come to mind when I think of describing myself are organized, artistic and laid-back.  I enjoy being well-prepared especially when teaching however I’ve also found that I work best when I’m relaxed and focused.

If you could learn any skill/hobby what would it be?

I already enjoy many hobbies such as hiking, playing sports, reading and puzzles.  I am also a photographer and I paint and draw however one hobby that I would love to learn is woodworking and especially furniture restoration.

Tell us something that may surprise us about you!

I grew up on a farm! People are surprised to hear this but when I grew up in Rosemont my family lived on a 53 acre farm.  Thats really where I started to get a passion for the outdoors and hiking.

If you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do?

If I had 30 minutes of free time I would probably look to draw or read.  Of course my dogs keep me on my toes as well so it’s possible I would take them for a walk or play outside with them.

What is the best place you’ve traveled to?

I love to travel so this is a very tough question! If I had to choose one place, I studied abroad in Rome and have re-visited many times.  I love Italy and even studied Italian and I am a student of Ancient History as well so Rome feels like a second city to me.  I love to travel

How do you spend your summers?

Typically my summers are full of coaching baseball and running camps and teaching swimming lessons.  I try to take a vacation every year to the Jersey shore as well.

If you could spend time with anyone who would it be?

I love my friends and family very much and we are close.  If I had to choose I would spend time with my wife and our dogs Baer and Scout.  We are a team!

What advice do you have for kids struggling in school?

School can be very tough.  Not only the coursework or content but also the social aspect can be particularly tough at times.  I remember situations in which I struggled in school, I always turned to my art to express myself.  I think it’s important for students to find outlets in order to find their own respective voices and create their own paths whether it’s sports, theatre, a musical instrument or another extracurricular activity.  There can be a lot of pressure on students to be perfect and I would say just do your best and take time for yourself when you need it.  I think having an outlet can really help with this.

Bryan is an Elementary Education tutor on our team. He is currently working toward his Masters in Art Education. Bryan is currently working as a paraprofessional. In this role he provides one on one support, assists classroom teachers with implementation of daily lesson plans and differentiates the general education curriculum to meet his students’ needs.
